Certify your level of French with the DELF and the DALF

Swiss French School offers preparation courses for the DELF and DALF certificates. These courses are tailored to your needs and prepare you for success in the exam.

The DELF and DALF are two official certificates issued by the French International Centre for Educational Studies. Just like Cambridge or Goethe certificates, DELF and DALF use a common scale.

The DELF, Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française, has four levels: A1, A2, B1 & B2, according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The DALF, Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française,is open to students at level C1 & C1+.

Each of these diplomas certify your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. We offer a personalised preparation programme according to your level and goal.

Success in one of these two examinations is mandatory to join many schools in Switzerland and France. It is recommended if you wish to study, work, or travel to Switzerland or France.

For more information see the DELF / DALF 2017-2018 exam dates.

Your preparation for the DELF / DALF includes:

  • A test to assess your level
  • Private lessons (or small groups, according to your wish)
  • The exam registration

The entrance test

You start by undertaking a “blank test” in order to assess your skills and identify your strengths and weaknesses. It is necessary to reach a minimum score of 65% for this test in order to participate in the preparatory programme. If necessary, we direct you to a more programme more suitable to your level.

Preparation programme

With your French teacher you can start your programme 12 weeks (depending on your level) before the date of your exam, with sessions of 1 to 2 hours per week. At home, the exercises allow you to practice the skills learned in class.

During the preparation course, the teacher helps you focus on each aspect of the exam: the four skill areas (reading, writing, listening and speaking), your level of grammar and vocabulary. You also have available sample exams in order to prepare you and to be confident on the day.

Registration for the exam

If you register for the preparation course for a certificate, you are automatically registered for the examination of it. You start the programme 12 weeks before the exam date with sessions of 2 hours per week.

Language Proficiency Exam (LPE)

Named the EAL (Language Proficiency Examination) in French, this extremely practical and technical review is for C1-C2 students. We prepare a package of personalised lessons with an EAL teacher.
